Now that we get the caveat out of the way, let's talk about the game proper. Fortunately, the catchy theme of gory violence is not all that Blood has to offer. While the graphics in Blood is inferior to other DOOM clones they look too blurry and the palette too dull to me , the environment is wonderfully alive. Thanks to the Build engine, the sheer amount of actions you can do in this game is amazing. You can blow huge parts of the environment up - even destroy an entire train if you want.
In addition to plenty of undead monsters, you will meet a number of memorable and funny characters including JoJo the Idiot Boy, as well as original monsters such as mimes. Blood also has excellent sound effects that more than make up for pixellated graphics: from the zombies' mumbles, to disembodied voices from the past, to your character, Caleb, quoting cool one-liners from Evil Dead and Shakespeare he beats Duke Nukem 3D quips hands-down in my opinion , sounds add a great atmosphere to the game.
As would be even more evident in Monolith's later games No One Lives Forever for instance , the level design in Blood is very clever, and is clearly what the designers put a lot of thought on.
There are many thin walls you can blow open, rotating rooms, and fun and memorable "theme" levels an abandoned ship, the carnival, and a moving train are my favorites.
The gameplay is the same "find key X to open door Y to find key Z that opens door A that contains key But the fun level design, the sense of humor in everything, and the number of secrets you can discover make Blood very entertaining and eminently replayable. Equally innovative is the design of weapons and various power-ups. Most of your weapons are very unique, original, and just plain fun to use. While you start the game with a standard-looking pitchfork, you will soon collect an impressive array of cool weapons, including a voodoo doll, a tommy gun, the aerosol can, and the life leech.
Although the game suffered from a lot of bugs in the original release, they are minor bugs that did not detract from the excellent gameplay. If you love 3D shooters, can at least tolerate campy humor, and are not offended by 'cheesy' gore and violence, Blood is one of the best games you will ever play. If you like the game, check out its excellent but slightly less fun sequel called Blood 2 also on this site. Two thumbs up, way up! Joe Mama 0 point. I love this game.

It's over the top violence makes the game humorous but a game for mature audiences. It has a lot of weapons, with a new feature in FPS 3D gaming, the ability to fire weapons with a secondary fire option like in Unreal Tournament. A central feature of Blood is an abundant and often exaggerated graphic violence, from which the game derives its name. Enemies can be blown to pieces, and the pieces often rain down on the player. Zombies' heads can be shot off and then kicked around like footballs, spewing fountains of blood.
Enemies scream if set on fire or are otherwise injured, making sound an integral part of the violent atmosphere of Blood. The levels themselves are designed with the same spirit, as corpses, torture victims, and several grotesque situations are witnessed in the game.
Collectively, these features caused some public concern about Blood , leading to a censored re-release of the game. GTI was later acquired by Infogrames , which has since been renamed to Atari. Monolith itself was acquired by Warner Bros. Night Dive Studios was commissioned by Atari to create an enhanced version of Blood. Blood received "generally favorable" reviews from professional critics, according to review aggregator website Metacritic based on seven reviews.
A few criticisms were voiced about the game, but did not find consensus among reviewers. For example, while GameSpot said the game "is just too damn hard", citing how quickly enemies can deal damage, [19] Next Generation asserted that "the game is lengthy without being too tedious, and challenging without being too difficult". GamingOnLinux reviewer Hamish Paul Wilson decided in a retrospective that Blood was easily the best of the three major Build engine games, stating that Blood was "one of the most underrated shooters of the whole decade.
Blood arguably built more on the legacy of Duke Nukem 3D than Shadow Warrior did, taking its gameplay to sophisticated new heights and offering its referential overtones with an even greater degree of refinement". More than , copies of Blood have been downloaded.

I believe this game is slowly achieving the recognition it deserves thanks to the internet and I believe there are even projects in the works to re-create the game for modern computers.
I've beat this one countless times Even the graphics are acceptable not great but a lot of the new one's aren't as smooth by today's standards.
